Our very own “I Can” standards for Common Core. “I Can” standards are the common core standards presented in a kid friendly format. Use these to help students and parents understand the new common core second grade standards. (Great to help teachers understand too!) They are presented as a checklist to help students self-assess their progress. Also makes it clear to parents what skills may need extra home support.

Perfect for posters in my room & to place in my students portfolios. They can check them off throughout the year & show them to parents when the portfolio goes home once a month.
This is great. Thanks so much Jill. You are doing some amazing things in your life!
Will you be creating “I Can” Common Core for fourth grade as well? Your site is so helpful!!
We’re glad you like it! We’re working on the “I Can” for 1st, 3rd and 4th. We have them started – hopefully they will be completing in the next few weeks.
Looking forward to getting my hands on these!! 2nd and 5th are getting lonely on my wall!
We’re getting there! Here are the 1st grade I Can standards. We promise we haven’t forgotten about the rest
3rd grade is very close to complete!

W.5.1 – should be “I can write an opinion essay.” In this document it is listed as I can write to persuade, but the standard is for opinion pieces, writing to persuade isn’t a 5th grade standard.
Thank you for your help! We’ll make the change. If you find anything else you think could be worded better, please let us know!
Will you have I can statements for 4th grade standards?
We will, Chris! Thanks for asking! We plan to have kindergarten through fifth done by Christmas (if not sooner)! Check back! We’ve just been so busy in our own schools that it’s not as easy to get as many resources posted.
Thank you so much for the I Can statements – and for free. I don’t see that much in our profession anymore:( I’m new to the website and enjoy it.
Would it be possible to get the “I Can” Common Core for the 6th grade standards? I think this is a great resource! Thanks!
Andi – the 6th grade I Can are on our to-do list. However, we think they will take some time. We will promise them by the summer of 2013! Hopefully sooner.
These are so awesome. Thanks for making them available for download. I am trying to figure out where I want to display them in my classroom after I get them printed out. Thanks, Stacy (http://new-in-room-202.blogspot.com)
These are amazing! I love checklists and getting all organized. I start my first teaching job Jan. 7th and I wasn’t quite sure how I was going to integrate Common Core into the classroom. Thank you so much.
Good luck with your new job! We’re so happy you are finding our resources helpful!
Thank you for this site. I am looking forward to the 6th grade information being posted.
I really enjoy reading information from your sight. Much of the information I can gladly incorporate in my everyday teaching plans. It is extensive which forces me to become better at teacing!
Thank you so much. This is really so helpful.
Would love to have I Can common core for 6th grade. Love your website
They are in the works for this summer!
