“I Can” Common Core Fifth Grade

by Jill & Cathy on September 15, 2012

Our very own “I Can” standards for Common Core. “I Can” standards are the common core standards presented in a kid friendly format. Use these to help students and parents understand the new common core second grade standards. (Great to help teachers understand too!) They are presented as a checklist to help students self-assess their progress. Also makes it clear to parents what skills may need extra home support.

Perfect for posters in my room & to place in my students portfolios. They can check them off throughout the year & show them to parents when the portfolio goes home once a month.

We’re glad you like it! We’re working on the “I Can” for 1st, 3rd and 4th. We have them started – hopefully they will be completing in the next few weeks.

W.5.1 – should be “I can write an opinion essay.” In this document it is listed as I can write to persuade, but the standard is for opinion pieces, writing to persuade isn’t a 5th grade standard.

Will you have I can statements for 4th grade standards?

We will, Chris! Thanks for asking! We plan to have kindergarten through fifth done by Christmas (if not sooner)! Check back! We’ve just been so busy in our own schools that it’s not as easy to get as many resources posted.

Thank you so much for the I Can statements – and for free. I don’t see that much in our profession anymore:( I’m new to the website and enjoy it.

Would it be possible to get the “I Can” Common Core for the 6th grade standards? I think this is a great resource! Thanks!

Andi – the 6th grade I Can are on our to-do list. However, we think they will take some time. We will promise them by the summer of 2013! Hopefully sooner.

These are so awesome. Thanks for making them available for download. I am trying to figure out where I want to display them in my classroom after I get them printed out. Thanks, Stacy (http://new-in-room-202.blogspot.com)

These are amazing! I love checklists and getting all organized. I start my first teaching job Jan. 7th and I wasn’t quite sure how I was going to integrate Common Core into the classroom. Thank you so much.
