As summer draws to a close, teachers are spending their final days putting together their classroom, attending meetings and trying to get in a last few moments of quality time with their family. It can be draining and teachers are definitely in need of a little break and a fun night with friends. We decided to put together a fun evening of treats and printables for the classroom to help them sneak in a little break.
We started by stopping at our local Walmart to pick up some snacks we thought all would enjoy. We grabbed M&M’s® Plain 42 oz. bag, SNICKERS® Ice Cream Bars 6-pack and Dr Pepper® Cherry 2-Liter, Life Savers® Hard Candy Variety and Skittles® 14 oz. We also picked up a pack of Pedigree Dentastix® Original Flavor which might seem strange for our get together but we thought it would be cute to send teachers home with a little gift for their furry friends at home adjusting to their owner being gone all day! While shopping we discovered that Walmart is giving away a $100 gift card daily! Don’t forget to hop on over and check out the easy to enter contest. Plus, you’ll be able to download some great coupons.
Printable Treat Toppers Once we got home, we started by creating these cute treat toppers. We made three different options. Our goal was to make one that is perfect to give to a teacher (from children or parents), one that can be given to colleagues and another that teachers can use for parent volunteers.
These are SO easy to put together, we promise they will be simple even if you aren’t crafty!
1. Print the Treat Topper file. (just click on the blue underlined wording, your pdf will open on your screen and you can click print)
2. Cut apart the tags. Simply cut into four rectangles – we included lines to make it simple.
3. Gather your supplies – you need small treat bags, scissors, stapler and candies you will be filling the bags with. We chose M&M’s® Peanut, Life Savers® Hard Candy Variety and Skittles®.
4. Fill your bags about 1/3 full with your candy.
5. Fold over the tops.
6. Fold over a tag and attach with a stapler.
You will end up with a collection of cute treats like these:
Chalkboard Inspirational Quotes We decorated our table using chalkboard signs we created. We used a few of our favorite inspirational quotes – we think these are perfect for a classroom. Or, frame one and surprise a friend on the first day of school.
We also made an incredibly simple dessert you can whip up and put in the teachers lounge for a surprise. You won’t believe how easy it is – simply make a cake mix as directed (we subbed the water in the mix for Dr Pepper® Cherry and it was perfect), make a small box of chocolate instant pudding as directed on the box. Pour the cake mix then the pudding into your slow cooker. Turn on low and cook for 3 hours. That is it! You will have an ooey, gooey chocolate cake that will become a pitch-in day favorite. (We added a scoop of vanilla ice cream – highly recommended!)
