“Explore Your World” is a unit designed for students to learn about, and experience a way of life different from their own, on the other side of the world.
Kindness and understanding among different cultures is becoming an increasingly more important concept to instill in children in our world today. This lesson plan is a perfect way to not just tell, but show both cultural differences and similarities to others.
The lessons we created are meant to serve as a traveling experience to create context around:
- what we know
- what we think we know
- how we can apply that knowledge when interacting with others living outside our borders
This particular unit focuses on Japan but we encourage you to use the outline we have created to study other countries in your classroom.
Within this unit, you will find a variety of lessons. Included are ideas for reading Japanese folktales, trying Japanese foods and learning about Japanese art.
Students will also be encouraged to look at the geography of the country and learn about landmarks.
