Friendship is a theme often explored in early learning classrooms.

These activities are designed to help you work on an understanding of friendships with your preschool, prekindergarten and kindergarten students.

You will find a range of printable friendship materials to add to your curriculum.

Giving students lots of examples of how to be a good friend can help them understand how to form positive relationships.  We wanted to create resources that will add to this study in your classroom.

Within the set of materials we have created, you will find activities for your class to complete in centers and independently. Some might be used as a part of a class discussion.

We have just updated this older collection of resources. You will find new, expanded materials along with all of the files being provided in a single download.

How to be a friend poster This is provided fully in color, with a white background and as a black and white version for children to color.

When I’m a friend / When I’m not a friend sort Print the cards for a class discussion. Students sort the cards into two categories. These can also be reviewed as center practice.

Writing a friendly letter Children can practice their writing skills while communicating with their classmates.  Younger students may need guidance to complete this task, you could even choose to do guided writing activities with the whole class.

Friendly Letter Word Bank  It is often helpful to have a word bank for younger students.  As a class, brainstorm a list of words you might use when writing to a friend or about friends.  On a piece of chart paper, record the words your class thinks of.  You can add to the list throughout the week. Or, children can create their own page using the printable we included.

My Friend Book Students practice reading and writing the word friend. This can be an independent activity for students working on their own while you work with small groups.

My Friends Have students complete a page for each classmate.  Students can either draw a picture of each friend or you could provide a photo for students to include.  We think it would be cute to include a class photo on the cover.
