Reading Number Words

Introduce and practice reading number words with this free collection of resources for teachers.

Reading Number Words

This is another free resource for teachers and families from The Curriculum Corner.

This collection helps students with the second grade math standard of reading number words up to 1,000.

Working on reading number words to 1,000 can be difficult for some second graders.  To help us address this, we have created a collection of activities for the classroom.

We have tried to include a variety of centers and practice pages to meet the needs of all of your students.

You will find the following reading number word activities in our single download at the bottom of this post:

Number Word Check Use these two pages as a pre- and post-assessment. It will help you know the needs of your students and document progress. For the top section, you will choose six numbers to read aloud. Students will then record each number.

Find a Partner You will find four cards on a page. There are two sets. The first contains numbers between 1 and 99. The second set contains numbers between 100 and 999. You will cut apart the cards and give each student a card (make sure you are using pairs of cards so each student will have a match.) Students will then find their match. We love that this activity gets kids up and moving! It can be a quick warm up or a time filler when you have a few minutes to fill and want to make those minutes meaningful.

Very Sweet Number Mats There are four number mats. Print these on card stock and laminate for durability. Students can practice reading number words at a math center by writing on the cards with a dry erase marker.

Candy Shop File Folder Game Use these pages to make your own file folder games. Print in color and glue to the inside of a folder. Print the matching cards on cardstock, laminate and cut apart. You will then place the cards in an envelope or baggies with the file folder. We also like to send our file folders through the laminator to make them more durable.

Number Matching Games There are two sets of these cards. One set for the numbers 1 through 99 and another set for the numbers 100 – 999.

Listening Pages Give students practice listening as number words as read. There are four pages for you to choose from. You will read a number word have students highlight the word as it is read. You can use each page many times by switching up the number you read aloud. These can also be used at a center where you have one student choose a number word and read it for other students.

Hi,

I'm an ESL teacher for students in grades K-5 in a public elementary school in NC. I'm always looking for resources I can use to make my lessons fun and interactive for the kids while reinforcing their academic language skills. I just found your website today, and have already downloaded several activities to use with various grade levels. I'm so excited about these materials, and extra excited that they're free! Thank you!!!!

Hello!! I ran across your site about a month ago, because I was looking for things to include in the curriculum I'm teaching my son with. We just started homeschooling almost 2 months ago and I'm really enjoying it!! I love the material that you have on here, and it has helped me to easily access worksheets to use and different skills to help him develop. He's in 2nd grade right now. Thank you so much for creating this site and allowing free access to the material! I really appreciate it!
