After carefully reading the problem, students will:

  • Step 1: Circle the math words.

  • Step 3: Solve the problem using words and pictures below.
  • Step 4: Share the answer along with explaining why the answer makes sense
two part word problems

This collection of math problems will help your students learn to look closely at all parts of the problem.

You might teach students to number or circle the parts that will require an answer.

The idea behind practicing problems like these is to encourage students to read and think carefully. They will need to work to identify that each of these problems will require two separate answers.

The problems include the following selections:

  • The Zoo
  • Lunch
  • Basketballs & Footballs
  • Nonfiction Books
  • Coins

If students need additional practice, you might choose to use the base of the problems above and switch out the numbers.
