One idea that we have all taken from the English/Language Arts CCSS is that our students need to be reading much more informational or nonfiction texts. This needs to begin very early so that as students progress through reading levels, they have experience to pull from and strategies to use. These matching cards are a start for early readers as they begin their journey as readers of information. The reading on these cards consists of three clues that will match up with a real life object on another card. Some of the words might be a little difficult for readers and require them to call on their prior knowledge or context & picture clues to figure them out. These cards support the CCSS English Language Arts standards for Reading Informational Text – Integration of Knowledge and Ideas.
