They are often fighting against opening articles and reading them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can imagine that just using the summary provided in the search results can result in students recording inaccurate and sometimes untrue information I am working on emphasizing that you need to read at least the paragraph the excerpt is taken from and often more to make sure what is found in the search results, answers the question you are searching for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Biography Sketch<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I have created three pages that are graphic organizers for students to use as they research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In my classroom, I had students take notes on these pages. I did not require complete sentences. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I did allow they to add pictures to their work if they found that helpful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When finished, I had them write a paragraph about the person they chose on the lined paper. For this practice, I just required about six sentences. There are many extra lines for those students who find it helpful to skip lines or to cross out instead of erase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When they finished the rough draft, students were responsible for editing and then creating a final copy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They wrote their paragraph on the pennant and added a picture and other information of their choice at the bottom. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I will come back and add pictures when I have my display up in the hallway!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Topic Ideas<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Since this practice was done in February, I had students choose a famous African American from a list I provided. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I included very few performers and athletes on my list. Those I did include were lesser known. I wanted to make sure that students had to research and not just recall what they already knew.
