While this will be a simple task for third graders, it will help students build understanding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once students have practice with the whole number line, begin working on fractions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can give a student a 0, 1 and 1\/2. The student should then place the cards in order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While they are completing the task, talk about the 1\/2 needing to be placed exactly in the middle of the 0 and 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can move on to the thirds and have students place the 0, 1, 1\/3 and 2\/3.
