noreferrer\"><strong><span style=\"color: #29b3e6;\">Sub Plans<\/span><\/strong><\/a> &nbsp;We started with a Word document that gives directions for the activities below. &nbsp;There are spots to fill in information about your class. &nbsp;Or, simply cut and paste to add to your own sub plans. &nbsp;You might need to make changes to fit your students, but we are hoping this will take a little time out of your planning!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>MATH<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.1.OA.B.3 &nbsp;Apply properties of operations as strategies to add and subtract. &nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>CCSS.MATH CONTENT.1.OA.B.4 &nbsp;Understand subtraction as an unknown addend problem. &nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecurriculumcorner.com\/thecurriculumcorner123\/wp-content\/pdf\/subplans\/first\/numbercards.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #29b3e6;\">Number <span style=\"color: #29b3e6;\">Cards<\/span><\/span><\/a>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong>There are so many uses for these cards! &nbsp;These contain the numbers 1-20, each on its own page. &nbsp;They can be used for a movement activity, where students are given a number and then have to get in order. &nbsp;They might also be used for practicing number families. &nbsp;The teacher can give three students cards that fit in the same number family. &nbsp;They stand in front of the room while classmates determine the related facts that can be made with the numbers.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #29b3e6;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #29b3e6;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thecurriculumcorner.com\/thecurriculumcorner123\/wp-content\/pdf\/subplans\/first\/numberfamilycards1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Number Family Cards<\/a> <\/strong><\/span>&nbsp;Students choose a card and use the number family to create four equations on their recording sheet. &nbsp;You can create a set of cards for each group or place at a center. &nbsp;Includes 16 cards and a recording page.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #29b3e6;\"><a style=\"color: #29b3e6;\" &nbsp;Describe characters, settings and major events in a story, using key details.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h5><strong>CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.1.2 &nbsp;Identify the main topic and retell key details of a text.<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"color: #29b3e6;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #29b3e6;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thecurriculumcorner.com\/thecurriculumcorner123\/wp-content\/pdf\/subplans\/first\/graphicorganizers.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Graphic Organizers<\/a> <\/strong><\/span>We have created two graphic organizers, one for a fiction book and one for a nonfiction book. &nbsp;Have the guest teacher read aloud a book and work with students to model completing the correct graphic organizer. &nbsp;Students may then complete their own graphic organizer during independent reading.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>WORD WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<h5><strong>CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.1.2 &nbsp;Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables and sounds (phonemes).&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecurriculumcorner.com\/thecurriculumcorner123\/wp-content\/pdf\/subplans\/first\/wordfamilies.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong><span style=\"color: #29b3e6;\">Word Families<\/span><\/strong><\/a> &nbsp;We have included two different options. &nbsp;The first is a single page with a word family listed at the top. &nbsp;This page is to be used in small groups. &nbsp;Each group is given a page. &nbsp;Students work in their groups to think of as many words in that word family as they can, recording all of the real words they name. &nbsp;The other page has four word families on a page and can be used for independent practice or small group work.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>WRITING<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.1.2 &nbsp;Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecurriculumcorner.com\/thecurriculumcorner123\/wp-content\/pdf\/subplans\/first\/writingprompts.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #29b3e6;\"><strong>Writing Prompts<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #29b3e6;\"><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong> <\/span>We have created five simple writing prompts. &nbsp;You can allow students to choose their own or assign the same one to all members of the class. &nbsp;Students write a sentence or two and draw a picture. &nbsp;We like the ideas of having the guest teacher model an example with the class before students are set off on their own.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #29b3e6;\"><a style=\"color: #29b3e6;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thecurriculumcorner.com\/thecurriculumcorner123\/wp-content\/pdf\/subplans\/first\/linedpaper.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lined Paper<\/a> <\/span><\/strong>&nbsp;Never hurts to have a stack of lined paper ready for a time-filler writing activity in your room!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>SCIENCE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecurriculumcorner.com\/thecurriculumcorner123\/wp-content\/pdf\/subplans\/first\/observation.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong><span style=\"color: #29b3e6;\">Observational Drawing<\/span><\/strong><\/a> &nbsp;We like to keep science simple and engaging when we are away from the classroom for the day. &nbsp;One of our favorites activities is to have students complete an observational drawing.<\/p>\n<p>We like this idea because it can fit your current unit of study. &nbsp;Use the page we have provided or simply have students use a blank piece of white paper. &nbsp;Choose an object that fits the theme you are studying.<\/p>\n<p>For example, if you are learning about birds, you may leave out a nest. &nbsp;If students are studying flowers, leave a plant. &nbsp; Students draw the object and practice labeling, an important skill for scientists to have! &nbsp;Sometimes it might work best for the guest teacher to display an object on your SmartBoard so that it can be large enough for all students to view.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #29b3e6;\">We have also created a newer set of first grade sub plans.
