Click on the title and download each item.<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecurriculumcorner.com\/thecurriculumcorner123\/wp-content\/pdf\/subplans\/guestteacherplans2.docx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sub Plans<\/a>&nbsp;&nbsp;We started with a Word document that gives directions for the activities below. &nbsp;There are spots to fill in information about your class. &nbsp;Or, simply cut and paste to add to your own sub plans. &nbsp;You might need to make changes to fit your students, but we are hoping this will take a little time out of your planning!<\/p>\n<p><strong>MATH<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecurriculumcorner.com\/thecurriculumcorner123\/wp-content\/pdf\/subplans\/first\/numbercards.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Number Cards<\/a>&nbsp;&nbsp;There are so many uses for these cards! &nbsp;These contain the numbers 1-20, each on its own page. &nbsp;They can be used for a movement activity, where students are given a number and then have to get in order. &nbsp;Students can be handed even numbers only and practice counting by 2s. &nbsp;They might also be used for practicing number families. &nbsp;The teacher can give three students cards that fit in the same number family. &nbsp;They stand in front of the room while classmates determine the related facts that can be made with the numbers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.NBT.1 Place value<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecurriculumcorner.com\/wp-content\/pdf\/subplans\/biggestnumber2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Build the Biggest Number Game<\/a>&nbsp;&nbsp; Allow students to work in pairs or have your guest teacher roll a die.&nbsp; After each roll of the die, the number is announced.&nbsp; Students have to record the number in a box.&nbsp; The dice will be rolled twice for the 2-digit numbers and three times for the 3-digit numbers.&nbsp; The goal is to make the biggest number possible from the rolls.&nbsp; &nbsp;This is also an indirect lesson in probabilty as students quickly learn what is the smartest place to record each number.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.OA.3&nbsp; Odd &amp; even numbers<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecurriculumcorner.com\/wp-content\/pdf\/subplans\/oddevenmaze.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Odd &amp; Even Maze<\/a>&nbsp; Students complete the maze to help the owl get from the start to the tree.&nbsp;&nbsp; Children color in the even numbers as they follow the path.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READING<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a style=\"color: #2361a1;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thecurriculumcorner.com\/thecurriculumcorner123\/wp-content\/pdf\/subplans\/graphicorganizers.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fiction Graphic Organizers<\/a><span style=\"color: #111111;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><a style=\"color: #2361a1;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thecurriculumcorner.com\/thecurriculumcorner123\/wp-content\/pdf\/subplans\/graphicorganizerit2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Informational Text Graphic Organizers<\/a><span style=\"color: #111111;\">&nbsp;We have created multiple&nbsp;graphic organizers for each area to be used with any book. &nbsp;You can choose to have the guest teacher model the completion of a graphic organizer. &nbsp;For classrooms where students are familiar with the terms, you might choose to have students complete as proof of their independent reading for the day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>WORD WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: normal;\"><strong>2.RFS.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: normal;\"><strong>Fry Word Boggle&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecurriculumcorner.com\/wp-content\/pdf\/subplans\/fry3.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">3rd Hundred Focus<\/a>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecurriculumcorner.com\/wp-content\/pdf\/subplans\/fry4.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">4th Hundred Focus<\/a>&nbsp; Students search for words by using only connecting letters.&nbsp;&nbsp; While other words will be found, we used the Fry words as a focus. &nbsp;You will find our Boggle Word Work Center here: &nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecurriculumcorner.com\/thecurriculumcorner123\/2013\/08\/26\/boggle-for-word-work-practice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Boggle Word Work<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: normal;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecurriculumcorner.com\/wp-content\/pdf\/subplans\/shortlongvowel.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Short &amp; Long Vowel Hunt<\/a>&nbsp;&nbsp; Students read the short passage to find long and short vowel sounds.&nbsp; They record five of each in the correct column.&nbsp; They also identify what vowel sound the word makes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WRITING<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.1.2 &nbsp;Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Comic Strip Writing<\/strong> &nbsp;Switch your writing workshop up a little with an activity that is sure to engage your students! &nbsp;Copy a stack of these <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecurriculumcorner.com\/thecurriculumcorner456\/comic-strip-writing-templates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Comic Strip Templates<\/a> for students to use. &nbsp;Instead of using their traditional materials, today they will be creating their own comic strips!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecurriculumcorner.com\/thecurriculumcorner123\/wp-content\/pdf\/subplans\/first\/linedpaper.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lined Paper<\/a>&nbsp;&nbsp;Never hurts to have a stack of lined paper ready for a time-filler writing activity in your room!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Science&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecurriculumcorner.com\/wp-content\/pdf\/subplans\/livingsort.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Living\/ Non-Living Objects<\/a>&nbsp;(Here you will find 12 colorful pictures for sorting into living and non-living categories.)&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;We have created an&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecurriculumcorner.com\/wp-content\/pdf\/subplans\/livinganchor.PDF\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Anchor Chart<\/a>&nbsp;to be used with the beginning mini-lesson.&nbsp; Then, students cut apart and sort these objects.&nbsp; You can have students work on the sort as a class and talk about why each item fits into the living or non-living category or you might have students work in small groups.&nbsp; As a follow up, you might have students practice writing a paragraph explaining why they know one of their objects is living or non-living.&nbsp;&nbsp; We have created a guide for this here:&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecurriculumcorner.com\/wp-content\/pdf\/subplans\/livingwhy.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Why I Know<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>We hope you enjoyed these 2nd grade emergency sub plans.
