They will show that the volume is the same as it would be if found by multiplying the edge lengths of the prism.

This collection is designed to help students practice using unit cubes. While students are introduced to the formula, this set of resources does not focus on students finding volume using a formula.

The first part of this resource includes a volume anchor chart along with notebook inserts.

You can download this first part below

A little about the anchor chart and notebook inserts: the anchor chart is designed to be printed as a full page for a classroom anchor chart. The other will print four on a page (in color or black and white.) These are ideal for inserting into student notebooks as a resource. You might also laminate these as a tool to be placed at centers.

A little about the practice page & exit tickets: 4 pages total – use the smaller forms for students to add to their math notebooks or to use as exit tickets

You can download this first resource here: Anchor Chart & Practice

This next part of this finding volume using unit cubes collection is the task card. We have divided these task cards into three different sets. You will find each set of task cards along with a description below. Each set of task cards also includes a recording page. The task cards have been color coded for easier sorting.

You might use these task cards during your small group instruction or for review at a math center. These cards are not designed to instruct but to provide practice for skills already taught.

Volume Task Cards Set 1 – Blue Finding the Volume of Solid Figures This set of task cards are ideal for center work. Place the cards and recording sheet at a center. Assign students a number of tasks to complete.

Volume Task Cards Set 2 – Red These task cards are for finding the volume using unit cubes with portions removed.

Volume Task Cards Set 3 – Orange Similar to set 2 but with more complex shapes.

Your students might enjoy this math video we found here: Math Volume Video

This video is a Catchy song to help kids remember the formula for volume. Also includes a step by step description to find the volume of the cube. This comes after the song.

These free measurement activities allow your students to practice finding volume using unit cubes.
