(Together they could brainstorm a definition and a sentence to share aloud with the class.)<\/li><li>Another idea is to take the prefix cards out of the stack and create a <strong>Word Brainstorm<\/strong> activity. Students choose a prefix card and then brainstorm a word that contains that prefix.<\/li><li>Take it a step further by having them reference the binder page to create a definition and write a sentence.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\">Reading search printable prefix practice<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>This set of 20 pages contains each one of the common prefixes at the top. The goal is to complete these pages over time during independent reading. <\/li><li>Students will search for words containing prefixes during their reading.<\/li><li>You can choose to give the students all of the pages to cut &amp; paste into their notebooks. Or you might choose only a few for each student with the thought that students can share some of their findings at various times throughout the year.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>Prefix Graphic Organizer<\/strong>&nbsp; <\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>This organizer has a space for students to write a prefix.<\/li><li>They will then explore the prefix further by finding the meaning.<\/li><li>They will be asked to provide examples of words with the prefix.<\/li><li>To finish, they will write and illustrate a sentence with one of the words they used as an example.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>What&rsquo;s the Word?<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>These are meant to be used as work mats for a center, independent or partner activity.<\/li><li>Simply print, laminate and leave at a center with a dry-erase or Vis-a-vis marker.<\/li><li>Students read the definition and then use the definitions of the prefixes on the binder page to try to think of a word &nbsp;that will match the definition.<\/li><li>When giving directions for this activity, it might be a good idea to tell students to look for key words in the definition that might go with the listed prefixes.<\/li><li>NOTE:&nbsp;An answer key has been provided for grading or self-check purposes, however students may come up with a correct word to match the definition that is different from the answer key. &nbsp;Page numbers are listed in the top right corner of each work mat.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>Word Creator Chart<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>This is a simple chart that has students using the binder page of prefixes to create new words by adding them to known root words.<\/li><li>Then they must come up with a definition based on what they know of the meanings of the root words and definitions.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>Interactive Notebook Page Inserts<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>These inserts are meant to be cut out, folded and partly pasted into notebooks.<\/li><li>Students work to think of several words that contain the prefixes typed on the side of the insert and are then required to write the definitions or sentences (teachers directions). &nbsp;Again, you may choose to have students glue all of them into their notebooks, choose specific pages or spread all of them throughout your class and have individual students share the words they come up with for each prefix.<\/li><li>(This resource could also be used in place of &ldquo;Prefixes in My Reading&rdquo; using the same premise as described above where students find their words within the context of the books they are reading.)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-white-color has-vivid-green-cyan-background-color has-text-color has-background
