Our reading series had a dinosaur related story and my kids showed interest. I decided to take advantage of this engagement and began researching to find ideas to incorporate into our reading lessons. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I stumbled upon a story about two paleontologists that worked to destroy after a bitter rivalry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This allowed us to compare and contrast the two scientists. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After reading short biographies, we read the story of their battle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Great Dinosaur Rush<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>These materials include a few different printables &ndash; use what fits your classroom best! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First, there is a page with short biographies on Cope and Marsh. Students are asked to identify traits of each on the left and then compare them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The next page can be used for sketch notes or any other way that works for you and your students. I asked my students to find the most important facts to fill the spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students can read about the rivalry on the following two pages. One activity we did in class after reading independently was to quiz each other. Students created their own questions and asked classmates to answer. This was done in small groups. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You will find some of the most well-known dinosaurs Cope and Marsh discovered on the next page. I provided this as an option for students who were really enjoying focusing on dinosaurs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, you will find question cards that can be printd on cardstock and then laminated.
