The questions are designed to be very open &ndash; different students have had different experiences with reading and writing. The goal is for you to learn what types of experiences each of your students have had. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As you introduce the task, it is important for you to emphasize it is ok for students to include negative thoughts about reading and writing. Often children think teachers are only looking for the positives. While we hope they have had more positive than negative experiences, it is good for us to know when that is not the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before giving out this page, I am going to share a book from my childhood and some of my own memories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-custom-css wp-custom-css-17ac6fb7 wp-block-paragraph\">While designing this page, I talked with each of my own children about what answers they would give. I am going to share some of these responses along with the books that they each brought up. The books ranged from The Night Before Summer Vacation, Scaredy Squirrel, Percy Jackson, and the I Survived series. I like that my children each gave books from different parts of their reading experiences. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As part of the task, I am going to ask students to bring in the book they name &ndash; either the actual book or just a picture.
