Comparing Numbers Cards, Work Mat, Clip Cards to meet kindergarten standards | Free from The Curriculum CornerThese activities address kindergarten standards K.CC.C.6 and K.CC.C.7 for counting and cardinality. The first activity is intended to be used as an independent or partner activity.

  • Print, cut and laminate two sets of our Number Cards (includes numbers 1-20 so that you can differentiate for the individual needs of your students).  You will also need one or two sets of the symbols (greater than, less than & equal to – the last page of the number cards).
  • Print and laminate a Workmat for each student who will be doing this activity.
  • Place each set of number cards in two separate baskets.
  • Place the symbol cards (face up) in between the two baskets of number cards.
  • Students will choose a number from the first basket and build that number with counters (or other fun objects) on the work mat on the left side and then write the number in the box below the objects.
  • Next, they do the same from the second basket and build that number on the right side, writing that number in the box below as well.
  • Finally, they determine which group is greater and place the correct symbol card in between the two numbers & write the equation on the recording sheet.

Then, take comparing numbers to the next level by giving your students a hands-on activity to review and practice using our greater than, less than or equal to clip cards.  Simply print and cut the cards apart.  Next, mark the backs of the cards with a dot or a sticker behind the correct answer on the front.  Then laminate and put the cards in a basket with some clothespins for a practice and self-check math center.  32 cards containing numbers from 0 to 10.
