Dawn Brandon, kindergarten teacher at Southwestern Elementary School in Hanover, Indiana knows that young learners typically LOVE animals, so she decided that her classroom theme would be “Our Animal Friends”. She tries to connect her lessons each day with this theme because she knows it will be of high interest and engaging to her students. Here she shares how she incorporates writing into her animal theme in a few different ways. THANKS DAWN!
Interactive Writing Center – Dawn uses this as one of her five daily writing stations. It is very simple, yet effective in her classroom. It consists of a picture for each of the class’ animal friends, with lines to label and add a title. Dawn prints them, puts them on card stock and laminates. This allows for these resources to be used with dry erase markers over and over. Here, she shares 28 of the animal pages & pictures she created, but using her idea, you could make many more to go along with any classroom theme or topic. Interactive Writing Pages
