Kindergarten Emergency Sub Plans

This is our first set of kindergarten emergency sub plans for that sick day you aren’t ready for!FREE Kindergarten Emergency Sub Plans from The Curriculum Corner

Kindergarten teachers, how often do you go into school when you are truly sick simply because going to school will take less effort than pulling together sub plans?  All teachers know that it is sometimes worse to stay home than go to school sick.

Hopefully these kindergarten emergency sub plans will make your life just a little easier when you simply cannot make it to school.

We suggest printing these materials and plans ahead of time.  This way, when you do need to call in, you can avoid driving to school at 1 a.m.!  We’ve all done it, right?  Put everything in a tub marked “Sub Tub” and you will be ready to go with very little effort.

We have included the Common Core Standards when possible below.  Don’t worry, if your state does not teach Common Core, these activities should still fit into your standards.  Our goal was to create activities that could act as review since these need to be applicable at any point in the year.  You never know when you will need them!

Sub Plans  We started with a Word document that gives directions for the activities below.  There are spots to fill in information about your class.  Or, simply cut and paste to add to your own sub plans.  You might need to make changes to fit your students, but we are hoping this will take a little time out of your planning!

Not all activities below are included in the sub plans.  This is noted below.

MATH

Number cards 1 – 20  There are so many uses for these cards!  These contain the numbers 1-20, each on its own page.  They can be used for a movement activity, where students are given a number and then have to get in order.  They might also be used for practicing one more or one less.  One student stands at the front of the group holding a card, and other students need to find the number that is one less or one more.  Use as a center activity where students need to count out the number of objects and place that number on the card.

Find the biggest number  Two practice pages for students to circle the biggest number.  One page includes all numbers between 1 and 10.  The other pages contains numbers from 1 through 20 for students needing a challenge.

LANGUAGE ARTS

ABC Cards upper and lower, find your partner or cooperative activity to match as a class   put all of one case in order

Fill in the Missing Letters Page 1    Fill in the Missing Letters Page 2   Two pages for students to fill in the missing letters.

I See a School  This is a printable book with simple, repetitive text.  This can be used as a whole group time filler or a small group activity.  This book is not included in the sub plans above.

These graphic organizers can be used to cover a variety of standards depending on how they are used.

Graphic Organizers We have created six different graphic organizers, three for fiction books and three for nonfiction books.  Have the guest teacher read aloud a book and work with students to model completing the correct graphic organizer.  Students may then complete their own graphic organizer during independent reading.

Beginning Letter Mats  These two cards are designed in color, perfect for printing and laminating for a center activity.  If you would prefer, you can print these in black and white and use as a practice page for students.  These are not included in the sub plans above.

Fry Word Strips  There are five different sets, each with 10 Fry words from the first 50 words.  These can be used for a small group, independent practice or another way of your choosing.
