These winter scrambled sentences are designed to give your emergent readers practice with reading simple sentences.

Print these scrambled sentence mats on card stock and laminate. Then, print the sentence word cards and cut them apart. Depending on the needs of your students, you might want to put each sentence in a baggie and attach it to the mat. Another option is to put the word squares in a pocket on the back of the mat.

We have created the square sentence cards to match the colors on the mats for easier sorting. We know at some point your students will drop and intermix the words.  Having the squares in different colors will make it possible for your students to sort the cards when this happens.

To complete the task, students will place the words in the correct order to match the sentence on the mat. The picture is provided to help your students to establish meaning.

We have also provided a page for students to record a sentence. They can then draw their own matching picture.

This set of 10 winter sentences will be an easy to put together center for your literacy work.

Some students might be overwhelmed by too many tasks in front of them. Make sure you look at the needs of your students and if best for your children, provide one sentence at a time. Others might benefit from being given the choice of choosing a sentence they like best.
