Making Connections

by Jill & Cathy on September 8, 2012

Help children build their comprehension skills by having them make connections while they read.  We have created these printable forms to make this an easy lesson to teach.

A great book to use for your mini-lesson is Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.  Every child has had a bad day so this is a great book to use as a model!

Text to Self Connections  Using Pictures     Using Pictures and Words   Using Words

Model text to text connections using Clifford’s Snowy Day and The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats.

We also like to use nonfiction texts with two different animals that might have similarities.  For example, you can use a text that teaches about the frog life cycle and a text that teaches about the butterfly life cycle.
