Use these Fry Word ABC Order cards to give your students help alphabetizing words.
This is another free resource for teachers from The Curriculum Corner.
This Fry Word ABC Order set includes task cards and work mats for recording answers. The cards are provided with a color background as well as a white background.
Here we have created a collection of 26 Fry Word ABC Order task cards. We have used only Fry words found in the first 500 so that students have a better chance of reading the words more easily
You can download the entire set by clicking on the bold blue words “ABC Order Task Cards & Resources” at the bottom of this post.
These cards can be used for a literacy center, small group guided practice or independent work for students to practice alphabetizing. They may also be used for those you feel might still need some additional Fry word practice.
The cards start with simpler alphabetization, where all the words begin with different letters of the alphabet. Then, they become gradually more difficult requiring students to alphabetize to the third or fourth letter of words.
In addition to the task cards, we have provided two work mats (one with space for 6 words and one with space for 9 words – to match the task cards). You can print off three or four of each of these, laminate them and have students use them again and again with a Vis-a-Vis/dry erase marker and the self-check pages.
If you’d like to check students’ work we have also provided two recording pages that you can copy and set in stacks at the literacy center. In this case you could use our self-check pages as an answer key to check student work.
You will find the entire card set here:
