Work on helping children build strong friendships with the free resources we have created for classrooms.
Friendship is a theme often explored in early learning classrooms.
Giving students lots of examples of how to be a good friend can help them understand how to form positive relationships. We wanted to create resources that will add to this study in your classroom.
Within the set of materials we have created, you will find activities for your class to complete in centers and independently. Some might be used as a part of a class discussion.
As this is an older set of resources, each material focused on building friendships is provided as an individual download.
We created the following resources for your classroom use:
How to be a Friend Poster Use this as a visual reminder for students.
How to be a Friend Sort Students sort cards into two categories: Being a Friend / Not a Friend This can begin as a whole class activity with a discussion and then transform into a small group center for students to review the ideas.
Writing a Friendly Letter Children can practice their writing skills while communicating with their classmates. Younger students may need guidance to complete this task, you could even choose to do guided writing activities with the whole class.
Friendly Letter Word Bank It is often helpful to have a word bank for younger students. As a class, brainstorm a list of words you might use when writing to a friend or about friends. On a piece of chart paper, record the words your class thinks of. You can add to the list throughout the week.
Friendship Booklet This is a simple booklet for students to read, write and draw the word friend.
Friends Book Have students complete a page for each classmate. Students can either draw a picture of each friend or you could provide a photo for students to include. We think it would be cute to include a class photo on the cover.
Friendship Tree We found this idea on Early Childhood Scribbles – this would be a great art project to celebrate your friendship week in the classroom. Kristen has even more great ideas that could be a part of your friendship week – hop on over to her blog and explore!
You might also find activities to use during your friendship unit here: The Rainbow Fish.
You will find the super cute clip art we used at EduClips!
