As the original writers of the I Can Common Core statements we felt it was important to rewrite our statements to spiral between grade levels.
You will find links to our FREE I Can Common Core statements farther down in this post.
We are often asked why we have changed our original “I Can” Common Core statements. This change occurred for two reasons.
First, there have been significant changes to the first set of CCSS standards that were published. Because of this, we felt that our resources needed an update. The old version of our standards now do not contain the correct standards.
Second, after spending time looking at our first set of “I Can” statements, we felt that they could be reworded to better spiral between grade levels. We hope you find these new resources useful!
Click on the links below to be directed to the resources available for each grade level.
Within each post you will find a wide variety of resources. We have worked to include a range so that you can find items that you need for your classroom.
Also available are our I Can Common Core statements translated into Spanish.
Within each grade you will find checklists, posters, student checkboxes, individual statements and more!
7th & 8th Grade Checklists for CCSS

Hi! Any chance there is a link to get “I can” statements for high school ELA common core standards?
Thanks!
Beth
Jill & Cathy says
Hi Beth and thanks for your question. Unfortunately we only create elementary and intermediate resources. We had a middle school colleague create the I Can statements for the 7th and 8th grade ELA and Math standards. So very sorry!
Brandi says
Thank you so much for making these! I will be using them year after year! I appreciate this so much~
Theresa says
I love the I Can statements, but am wondering if you will have a set for the Indiana College ge and Career Readiness Standards.
Jill & Cathy says
Hi Theresa! The short answer to that question is no…not yet. Though we are from Indiana, we are not currently in classrooms and haven’t had time to create those. The longer answer is that we would really like to do this for our Indiana colleagues and it is on our to-do list. We just aren’t sure when we will get them finished.
Sara says
I am in search of a set for Indiana as well.
Jill & Cathy says
Hi Sara, We don’t currently have plans to create I Can statements for specific states. Will let you know if that changes. We did create a set of primary statements without the CCSS indicators that might work for you if you are in the primary grades.
Here is a link to the third grade set so you can see an example: https://www.thecurriculumcorner.com/thecurriculumcorner123/2017/09/3rd-grade-kid-friendly-standards/
Rita says
I would love one for the extended standards 6-12! 🙂
Jill & Cathy says
Hi Rita! So sorry, but our experience is all elementary so we don’t feel qualified to create the others! We do have the 7th and 8th grade E/LA and Math I Can statements that we had a middle school colleague of ours create. You can find those here: http://www.thecurriculumcorner.com/thecurriculumcorner456/everything-i-can-common-core-for-7th-8th-grades/

Thanks so much!

I teach Special Education for Cognitively Impaired and Autistic students that are high functioning. Do you have differentiated lessons?
Jill & Cathy says
Hi Rachael! Could you be a little more specific in what types of resources you are searching for? Skills? Concepts? We have lots of resources throughout our site that are (or can be) differentiated for the needs of learners.
Angie says
This is amazingly helpful and very teacher and student friendly!! THANK YOU!!
Sarah says
Your site looks awesome. I teach sixth grade science. I hope to see more of your items for that area. I love the “I Can” statements. Wish you had those and objectives for 6th grade College and Career Standards/COS Standards for Alabama.
Dana Evans says
Thank you for sharing these resources.
Iris Windom says
Thank you so much for this resource. I am so grateful for creative people who are willing to share your insight and creativity with those less gifted. You are such a blessing. I will use these and share the site with others.
Corey says
These are absolutely amazing and a lifesaver!! Would you all ever think about adding visuals to them? Or like showing an example of the standard? Also do you offer them for Social Studies and Science?
Jill & Cathy says
Hi Corey! Unfortunately right now we have no plans to update these with visuals or examples. Our focus has leaned more towards adding units of study to our site. So sorry! We don’t offer social studies or science because there isn’t currently a set of national standards for those subjects for primary and intermediate classrooms. Would be too difficult to do them for each state. Hope our resources are still useful! Might we suggest you adding the examples to the posters as you teach the standards? And have students write them on their copies too? Just an idea…
Katy says
Wow! You are amazing to share all of this work for free! Thank you so much. I really appreciate the, “I Can” statements in particular.
Debi says
These are FABULOUS!
I was wondering if you would be willing to create these for the Elementary (K-5) Visual Arts? I would love to have them in the green chevron =)
Form and function are one!
Thank you so much!

Jill & Cathy says
Hi Debi,
We don’t currently have plans to extend our I Can statements to other areas. Many states are opting to modify the language arts and math CCSS and it would be very difficult/time consuming to create them for each state as well as writing them for additional subjects. So very sorry!
