About this activity
My team used these as an activity to create a display for families. We were preparing for a family showcase and needed to find a way for students to share Leader in Me. I created this quilt square activity to achieve this goal.
They turned out even better than we expected! Our team had many artistic students – they did an excellent job of relaying information about the habits by using art.
Before we began, I projected a blank copy on the board. I had students share which habit they wanted to focus on. Then, we talked about possible ways to explain the meaning behind the habit they chose. I decided to have students plan on a post-it note.
For the center, I requested that they included the number of the habit along with the name. Because our goal was to teach our families about the habits, they really did need a name to go with the number.
We then talked about each section they would fill in. It was ok to explain the purpose behind the habit. Other students included pictures that explained the meaning. I saw some quotes and even song names included. This time, I did not have an example to show students but this didn’t keep them from doing their best work!
Once students were finished, we laminated them and hung them in the hallway for our showcase.
