School Scavenger Hunts

Check out these free school scavenger hunts to help your students become familiar with your classroom, school and outdoor grounds.

scavenger hunts

Looking for a fun way to start your year?  These school scavenger hunts are engaging, fun and intentional.  Even if most of your students attended your school last year, all will benefit from exploration activities.  These foster teamwork and social skills.

And most years there are at least a few new students in your classroom, so scavenger hunts are a great way to get them familiar with their new school.

Let’s face it…getting students up, moving and familiar with their new environments is a win/win this time of year.  School hunts are the perfect way to do this!  Not only will they help students with your procedures, but they also help to build community within your classroom as students work together to find various things.

We have included three different scavenger hunts to get your students familiar with their surroundings…a classroom scavenger hunt, a school scavenger hunt and an outside scavenger hunt.  Choose the one (or more) that fit your needs the best.

We suggest that you pair students with partners or even small groups to work together to find the items on their hunts.  This will give you a good opportunity and feel for students who are comfortable working with peers.  You will also be able to spot those who might prefer doing tasks more independently.

Taking observational notes during these hunts is a great idea so that you can begin to know your students and their work habits better.

Also, we have designed these school scavenger hunts so that you can add items specific to what you need in the blank boxes before copying them!
