About this types of writing quiz
This quiz was designed to be a review of argumentative, informational, and narrative writing.
Before standardized testing last year, we had spent time reviewing and practicing each type of writing in my classroom. Students had practiced each form throughout the year and when prompted, knew the differences. However, I still felt like the key points students need to include might not be recalled quickly when it was time to respond to the prompt. I wanted to students to spend most of their time writing, not thinking about what must be included.
This first slide asks students to name the purpose of each type of writing.
The next slides are multiple choice. Some slides require more than one answer. An answer key is included at the end.
Using these slides
These slides are saved as a PDF. In my room, I displayed them on the screen.
Students each had an index card which they labeled 1 through 10.
As I displayed each slide, I read it aloud.
Students then put their responses on their cards. The first slide requires written answers. The other slides require an a, b, or c.
Grading the cards was quick and easy with a, b, c responses.
This provided me with a quick glimpse of where students were and who needed to review.
