Checkered Adventure Decor Set for the Classroom

Creating this set
font used – sagona
I created this new decor set for my own classroom. After a year in science, my room was in need of being switched back to humanities. I had my old decor tucked into a closet but decided I was ready for something new.
I needed to incorporate the world, reading, and writing. I have recently read a few articles about the concept of “awe” and learning. The last was one I stumbled upon in a magazine the cashier gave me when I was checking out at Fresh Thyme. Not my usual go-to for classroom inspiration! This was enough of a push for me to begin working on a new idea for a theme.
I needed to replace some bunting in my room so I started with some pieces to create something new. I had the phrase “I am in AWE in mind” but couldn’t figure out how it would be used. Jill helped me out with this one – we landed on AWE standing for adventure, wonder, and exploration. It was the perfect way to link all of my ideas together!
Not long after coming up with this phrase, I found the book AWE! by Chana Stiefel and ordered it. (Click on the title to find it on Amazon – I do earn a small commission when you order items from Amazon via my links.) I ordered my own from bookshop.org to support a local bookstore – it took a couple extra days to arrive but was worth the wait! (I don’t earn a commission from bookshop.org, I just prefer to support local bookstores – I chose Chapter Book Lounge, a favorite of mine in Noblesville!)
The book uses different words to define awe but is still a perfect fit for the classroom theme! I am thinking that I will create a spot in my room where students can share pictures they have taken or find that show awe.
Now, to the decor part – some of the pieces are editable. You can adjust the text to fit your classroom needs. The font I used was Sagona. You will download the PowerPoint file and make sure the font is installed on your computer. When you open it, you will be able to edit the text boxes. Need more than one of a page, simple duplicate the page.

Book Basket Labels: I use these to label my bookshelves. I’ve included all of the titles I need for my 6th grade collection. I’ve also added in some that will be needed for younger grades. Look before you print! While I love Donald Crews and Sandra Boynton, I couldn’t use the labels in my classroom. I tried to group each page with other similar categories. I will include the PDF and PowerPoint – if I have skipped what you need, you can edit the PowerPoint to fit your book collection.
Leader in Me Habits Posters: These posters contain the 8 habits along with explanations to help students better understand how the habits look in the classroom and in life outside of school.
Classroom Objectives Posters: Choose the posters that fit your classroom. I post these on my board and write in the objectives each week.
