The reasoning behind these pages

I created these organizers to use alongside the Scope magazines in my classroom. They contain so many great stories and pieces of nonfiction (this is not a sponsored post – just my honest opinion of a great product!)

When reading, I was finding that my sixth graders often would read the words without thinking about what they were reading. They needed practice slowing down and thinking through the text.

I needed students to be able to read a section and then identify the main idea. This seems basic but too often, students would just pick the first sentence or reword the heading to explain the main idea.

As a result, I worked to create some pages that would help my students with this process.

We used these pages a few times and I was really happy with how they helped.

These will fit into many 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th grade classrooms.
