These 2nd Grade “I Can” Checklists are designed to easily track standards taught in the classroom.
This is another free “I Can” Common Core resource from The Curriculum Corner.
Add these 2nd grade I Can checklists to your collection of standards resources.
Our common core standards checklists are just what you need to help you keep track of the standards taught in your classroom.
How can these checklists help me?
Use these to make sure you are addressing all that you need to teach throughout the course of the school year.
Keep track of when you have introduced, retaught and assessed each indicator.
One important part of the common core are the anchor standards that carry through from kindergarten to high school. These have been included with each language arts checklist so that you don’t lose sight of your essential goals for teaching and learning.
***Please keep in mind that these checklists are more to be used as a system of checks and balances in your teaching for the year and not so much a “check off” sheet for these indicators to be checked and thought of as “done”. You will be teaching so many of these concepts during your small groups and one-on-one conferencing each and every day.
The checklists are available in two formats:
- an editable Excel spreadsheet where you can type your dates and/or notes in the boxes
- printable PDF for writing in your info
**Note – you may have to play around with your margins to get them to print just the way you want them.
The first two resources are the more in depth explanatory standards provided on www.corestandards.org. You may want to print them and keep them in the front of a data binder for reference.
The second resource has been created using the I Can statements we created.
Choose whichever suits your needs the best!

Thank you so much for creating this wonderful resource. I have downloaded the free versions of these documents. I don't want to change anything but I do want to bring to your attention that on the second grade checklist for the reading "I Can" Statements their are some spelling mistakes beginning on the literacy standards page (2.2 and 2.3). I wanted to fix them but can't due to not being able to edit the document.

Hi Jeniffer! So sorry that was confusing. When you get to VariQuest's site you will see the entire lesson plan. At the very bottom you will see three images. Click on each image individually to print the menu, the word problems and the task cards. (When you click the PDF will come up and you print from there.)

I downloaded the CC checklists for 2nd grade but want to know if there is a way to unlock the document so I can change the heading section (date taught, etc.). You have done such a great job and I like the document but if I could change the headings they would be more applicable to my planning. Thank you!

Hi Martha! Thanks for your inquiry. Unfortunately because we have seen so many of our editable CCSS resources pop up on TPT for sale by others who have copied them, we don't have them available on the site in an unlocked format. If you do want these in an editable format, we have put them on TPT for a $5.00 charge of our own. Very sad to have had to do this, but it was the only solution we saw to try to deal with what was happening. :(

Thank you so much . I woke up thinking what if some one has created such a detailed document and there it was! How absolutely useful.
