We do a collection of read alouds surrounding gingerbread…The Gingerbread Man, The Gingerbread Girl, Gingerbread Baby, and Gingerbread Friends. But of course, the original Gingerbread Man is my favorite. With any good read aloud, you must have a snack, so we decorate gingerbread men cookies.

There are so many amazing books to read in December, but my favorite December read aloud is a tie between The Puppy Who Wanted a Boy by Jane Thayer and Who’s That Knocking on Christmas Eve by Jan Brett. I like them for different reasons. For the first book mentioned, because I love puppies, dogs, and kids and it combines all that along with the hope of the Christmas season. The last one because those trolls are just plain mischeivous, and I love to crack the kids up when I read in a troll voice to them.

So, I like to read Dear Polar Bear… by Barry Ablet (Scholastic books) and The Snow Tree by Caroline Repchuk.
